how to tell if you are part of the edgy nerds cult known as dark academia
1. you study at a prestigious school nobody ever heard of in an obscure city. your school looks like a castle from times past and is hidden from society, being only accesible through a forest.
2. you have an amazing fashion sense. you dress like a model even when you are in your dorm. it doesn’t matter that there’s nobody around because physical forms aren’t the only things you’re trying to impress.
3. everything you do is for the morbid longing for the picturesque.
4. you either drink and smoke a lot or like watching people do those things because they please your aesthetic sense (or they remind you of some tragic event from your past; and you like to be reminded of what you lost.)
5. you speak at least three languages. bonus points if you speak dead ones like greek or latin.
6. you probably study humanities, arts or languages. if you study law or other fields that are more socially acceptable in this capitalistic society, you may have a dark academia soul, but you choose not to pursue that path. (you still look back at your choice and think ‘what if’ sometimes)
7. you like reading classical books. you probably still live in the era of your favourite books. your way of thinking, of speaking and of being shows that you never grew out of that Romantic / Rennaisance / Antique period.
8. you romanticize everything. everything you do, you do with passion, you enjoy every cup of tea, every human interraction, every sunset (because if you wouldn’t, you’d go crazy).
9. you have high expectations of people and relationships. if you don’t feel enough passion from people, you leave. you’re either very good at taking the trash out of your life or the exact opposite (be careful, romantic soul).
10. you are extremely interested in ancient cultures and mythologies, especially the greek and roman one. you feel connected with those old souls that lived in times forgotten.
